Alan Canant’s editing credits include numerous award-winning films.  His most recent project is Sympathy For the Devil starring the incomparable Nicolas Cage and Joel Kinnaman. Previously, he edited Stay Awake, selected for the Berlin Film Festival and starring Chrissy Metz and Wyatt Oleff, as well as Becky the “darkly effective horror thriller” (Chicago Sun Times) starring Kevin James and Lulu Wilson.   Among his other past work is Songs My Brothers Taught Me, directed by Chloe Zhao (Nomadland).  The film was nominated for two Independent Spirit Awards, selected for the Cannes Film Festival, and premiered in competition at Sundance.   Among his other past work is Hellion, starring Aaron Paul and Juliette Lewis, called “A Raw, Honest, Special Film,” (distributed by IFC Films/Sundance Selects);  Transpecos, (Samuel Goldwyn Films) winner of multiple festivals including SXSW; and the horror comedy The Catachism Cataclysm (IFC Films) executive produced by David Gordon Green and Danny McBride.  Alan also edited short films for the renowned artist Daniel Arsham and award-winning playwright Katori Hall (P-Valley).

Among Alan’s documentary credits are Girl Model, "the riveting breakout hit" of the Toronto Film Festival and winner of Best Documentary at the Rome International Film Festival, as well as Requiem For The American Dream, Noam Chomsky’s deconstruction of American inequality.

When Alan isn’t editing films, he produces and edits trailers for a number of networks and post houses.  Some of the networks his work has appeared on include AMC, Showtime, NBC, Comedy Central, Sundance Channel, EPIX, and BBC America where he won a PromaxBDA award.

Alan is based in New York City where he has been a lab fellow at the IFP Narrative Labs and an Adjunct Professor for the Steiner Studios MFA program at Brooklyn College.
